PINK PARTY VOLUNTEER NEEDS OUR HELP
Press Release
Mary Roberson, the mother of our beautiful Pink Party Volunteer and Model, Kla-Bada Roberson is in her first cycle of chemotherapy this week. The cost of her treatments, her medications, and daily needs are overwhelming. The disease amplifies each little expense, because she is unable to work.
In 2007 Mary was in a serious car accident that left her with a broken femur, wrist, and hand. While in the hospital for surgeries after the accident, doctors discovered a lump in her breast. After some tests, the lump was diagnosed as an aggressive form of HER2-positive stage-II breast cancer. Not one to concede defeat, Kla-Bada’s mother Mary is a bright and shining woman and it was a testament to her strength when she showed up at the Pink Party in November of 2008, the DAY AFTER her lumpectomy, to watch her little girl walk down the runway!
Mary is an inspiration to her family. Her strength is visible in the way she approaches each situation with wisdom, class and vibrancy. Mary has raised her children with discipline and love, and now they are striving to lift her up through this difficult time. She has overcome so many trials, and has never given up. Kla-Bada says of her mother “It’s hard to tell that anything is even going on with her. She’s as positive and kind as ever, and she’s still one of the best listeners I know”.
In the time that the Pink Party Team has become acquainted with Mary, we are continually amazed by what a bubbly and thoughtful woman she is. Not a fan of pity parties, but a big fan of the Pink Party! She helps the Pink Party by giving us a purpose to keep doing what we are doing!
Now in its fourth year, The 2009 Pink Party is setting sail to Catalina Island! On November 6th, over four hundred people will board a private yacht, cocktails in hand, and arrive at a gorgeous private beach to share a weekend of fine food, sexy beats, laughter, and cirque performance. This is San Diego’s premiere event to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer prevention (www.pinkpartysd.com), and directly benefiting the Breast Cancer Fund (www.breastcancerfund.org), the leading national organization working solely on eliminating the environmental and other preventable causes of the disease, and The Breast Cancer Network of Strength (formally Y-Me) (www.networkofstrength.org), which offers comprehensive support to those newly diagnosed, survivors, their families and loved ones, ensuring no one faces breast cancer alone.
However, this type of success is only possible due to the support of San Diego’s media, Blue Insomnia Events, Aim to Simplify, our amazing sponsors, and each of our loving party guests who wrap themselves from head to toe in every shade of pink. Times are tight with this current economy. We all feel the weight and know its stresses, but imagine what it’s like for those also facing breast cancer during these tough times. Now more than ever, we need to come together to boost those in need of our love and support.

Platt Brothers on America’s Got Talent!
The Platt Brothers prove America’s Got Talent!
America’s Got Talent has discovered the 2008′s Guest Performers, THE PLATT BROTHERS! “These three brothers — who say they’re best friends — grew up without television, and had to come up with a lively way to keep themselves entertained. Dressed in baby blue track suits, the trio busts a move (and even breaks out a little miming) to get the audience going. Give it time, and you’ll see these boys can flip” was how Rebecca Harper of Hulu described them.

And they are wonderful, kind hearted entertainers that have a history of helping out at good causes. In 2008, the Platt Brothers even donated their time and considerable efforts at the 2008 Pink Party! Benefitting two breast cancer charities, the Breast Cancer Network of Strength and The Breast Cancer Fund. If you want to see their performance – and to learn more about the 2008 event at Fit Athletic overlooking PetCo Park in San Diego – then tune into ShindyTV below!
